Her mom does 2 jobs to make ends meet, however with high rent and cost of living, theyhardly have enough money for food. So one day, along with her mom, Emma goes to the local foodbank that is run by Feed Scarborough. At the foodbank, while Emma was waiting in one corner reading some fun books, while her mom was shopping at the foodbank, Emma saw a racoon walking around, playing with an apple. Emma started talking with the Racoon. Racoon told Emma that his name is Dignity, and the apple is his friend, named Hope. Dignity told emma all about food insecurity in our community and that she is not the only one who comes to the foodbank. Feed Scarborough's foodbanks are set up like a grocery store, so her mom can pick and choose the food that Emma likes. Dignity also told Emma about so many children, who are not having enough food to eat nowadays as times are tough. Dignity told Emma that better days are coming soon as Toronto's Mayor and Canada's Prime Minister is working together to have better food in school so no children need to study in empty stomach. As dignity was telling Emma these stories, suddenly Emma heard her Mom's voice, calling out to her. As she turned towards the door, she saw her mom asking her to come with her so they can leave the foodbank. As Emma turned back, Dignity and Hope was nowhere to be seen. Was Dignity and Hope real? Were they really there telling Emma the story or were they franction of her imagination, as on the wall, there was a poster of Dignity and Hope (which are the mascots of Feed Scarborough.

The community of Lung Yeuk Tau exudes a strong sense of tradition. Every Lunar New Year’s Day, we sincerely pay homage to our ancestors, offering sacrifices at their altars. On the second day of the new year, we host a vegetarian feast to welcome distant relatives, celebrating the joy of family reunion. The decennial Tai Ping Ching Jiao is the highlight of our community—lively parades and bustling temple fairs reflect the rich culture of Lung Yeuk Tau. I especially enjoy strolling along the charming streets of the old and new villages. The rustic blue brick walls, the scattered houses, and the mysterious watchtowers all radiate the unique charm of ancient Chinese villages. Every time I pass by, I listen intently to the stories of the past and present, as if I can feel the wisdom and footprints of my ancestors. People say that Lung Yeuk Tau, just like its name suggests, is full of life and vitality—a place where dragons soar and tigers leap. It carries the historical memories of countless years while thriving with energy, where traditional culture and modern life coexist harmoniously. Mina is a half Korean and Half Vietnamese girl who is learning about the Vu Lan Festival that is celebrated on June 15th. She sees her parents setting up an altar and preparing food and learns to make a sweet rice cake with her mother. She is told that the festival is meant to honor parents and ancestors with offerings made at home and at the Vietnamese temple. Her family visits a temple and prays. Afterwards, they light and hang a paper lantern on a tree. The next day the family packs up old clothes and toys to give to their local Vietnamese charity. Mina is happy to remember her ancestors and help others, looking forward to doing it again next year

His days were peaceful. Mr. Ray, on the other hand, was often angry. His garden wasn't well-kept, and his words were harsh. His days were lonely. One day, after a storm, there was a big hole in the fence between their houses. Mr. Ray wasn't happy. “This is terrible! Was the wind too strong?” he shouted. Mr. Thomas smiled. “Yes, it was strong. But maybe this is a good thing.” “How can this be good? The fence was important!” Mr. Ray asked. “Was it?” Mr. Thomas said. “Or was it only a wall between us?” The next day, Mr. Thomas was outside, planting new flowers where the fence used to be. Mr. Ray watched. He thought about his neighbor’s words. That afternoon, he was outside too, bringing a chair. He sat and talked to Mr. Thomas. For the first time, his day wasn't lonely. One day they discovered they were more than that when a person called Phil arrived at their house on the beach. 4. Phil was visiting the tropical island for two months. 5. All of his possessions fitted into the two tubs. 6. When Phil was packing his clothes into the tubs, he was thinking how much stuff he had left behind at home. He was also thinking of little he needed on his visit to the tropical island. 7. Each day as Phil took out something to wear he reflected on what it felt like to live with so little. 8. It felt good. Phil felt free! Life was simple and uncluttered. 9. Little did the tubs know that they had become a symbol of a new way of living for Phil. 10. They had taught Phil a very important lesson, to not collect to much stuff but to live simply.
